What the client needed.
A MedTech client had the dispenser hardware: a Raspberry Pi 4 with camera and microphone modules inside a pill-dispensing unit. What it lacked was the software to make it safe and useful for elderly patients and their carers.
The device had to dispense on schedule, confirm each dose, speak to the patient, and alert a caregiver when a dose was missed, all reliably enough for a medical setting.
Device, app and cloud working as one system.
Android runs on the Raspberry Pi and drives the dispensing mechanism, camera and voice. A caregiver app manages schedules, and a cloud backend keeps both in sync and sends alerts.

The decisions that made it work.
- 1
Offline-first on the device
Schedules live on the dispenser, so doses are never missed because Wi-Fi drops. Events sync when the connection returns.
- 2
Voice and camera, not just buttons
Spoken prompts and camera confirmation suit patients who struggle with small screens.
- 3
Every dose is an audit event
Dispensed, taken, missed and refilled are logged with timestamps for carers and clinicians.
- 4
Software on client hardware
We built around the client's board instead of redesigning it, which kept their certification path intact.
